Discoloration part 2: The Angry Sun Gods Attack

You see that teal plane in the upper right corner? That's the RVF-25 from Macross Frontier.
It's been sitting on my shelf for a long time, and all though I'm usually fully aware of the toys I have on display, something has gone horribly wrong behind my back. I must have failed to notice the disaster that has been sneaking up on me - and more specifically - the RVF-25.

It was badly discolored. It's a tragedy!

I had to hurry to get it back in its package, and as I was in a panicked state of mind, I forgot to take pictures of it. But believe me, it's bad.
The white/light gray VF-25F (pictured) went back in its box as well, just in case.

I know, I'm exaggerating, and using words truly unfit to describe sun-damaged toys. I can of course just buy a new RVF-25, and I think in the near future I will do just that. Maybe even hope Bandai release the RVF with the updated construction.
But I'm really annoyed by discoloration. And it worries me a bit, how I will be able to display some of my toys.
You see, I truly believe toys are meant to be seen, and played with. Not be stored in a case, inside a closet, never to be seen.

With Lego, and to a certain extent smaller action figures, I know what the cure to discoloration is. It's the heroic warrior Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2. I just submerge the pieces in a solution of Hydrogen Peroxide, and the discoloration will go away. But the RVF-25 is too big to fit in a jar with H2O2, and it's too complex for me to disassemble - I think.

I had planned on saving the RVF-25 and the rest of the Frontier Valkyries for my 100th blog entry, but now I'm not so sure anymore.

So... Throw me suggestions to what the 100th entry should be about, if it's not transformable jets from Macross Frontier!

Figure Friday: King's Castle

It's Friday, and it's time to look at some toys. Today I have a real gem, a toy I got back in the 80s, one that has seen a lot of play, yet is in surprisingly good shape today, 20 years later.
It's the Lego 6080 King's Castle from the year of our lord 1984.

G.I. Joe collection

First of all, happy new year. 2012 looks just as promising as any previous year, and while I'm cautiously optimistic as usual, it did feel like a good start to the year. Just before Christmas, I got back my G.I. Joe collection. It has been at a local museum for the better part of two years. I will simply start the new year by letting you see how the exhibition looked like. I will also admit that I missed my toys. Most of them are connected to good memories spanning two decades. While those memories will be saved for Figure Fridays, I will tell a bit about how it was to make an exhibition at a museum.

Discoloration Part 1: The Rise of the Sun Gods

I can't really be mad at the sun. Mainly because I rarely get to see it. It's always clouded here and usually it's raining. So any sunlight is of course more than welcome.

But it's destroying my toys, slowly but surely.
Not a long read today, but a very ambitious promise.

How to boil an egg

In relation to a holiday trip last week, I slept over at a friend's place. I'll not name this friend due to what happened next. You see, at some we found ourselves hungry, with nothing in the apartment but eggs. This is normally not a problem for me, as I consume 2-3 eggs on a daily basis. I challenge you to find a more delicious and versatile product. A meal on it's own, as well as the ingredient for some of the best dishes and cakes. Can be used for dinner, can be used for desserts. Definitely more on the broader use of the egg later. But this evening, we simply had nothing else than eggs to eat.

And that's when I found out... my friend didn't know how to boil an egg.

This is not really surprising. Some people don't eat eggs like this, for them they're just ingredients. Some probably just doesn't do it often enough to have a decent routine. And others may own devices that ehm.. boil eggs in other ways.
